MT DUO 2008: the Answer to All Your Sourcing Needs
As one of Asia’s most important venues for showcasing advanced manufacturing technologies and innovative production equipment for high-tech sectors, the 2008 Taipei CNC Machine Tools & Manufacturing Technology Show (MT DUO 2008), previously known as MANUFACTURING TAIPEI, will present the largest range of opportunities from across the manufacturing technology industry. Renamed
as “MT DUO” to highlight Taiwan’s world leading position in both CNC machine tools and manufacturing technology, the 2008 show features over 250 exhibitors who will use 800 booths to display the widest range of products in TWTC Exhibition Hall from May 1 to 5, 2008.
Effective Product Categorization for Easy Sourcing
From innovative machine automation, machine tooling, to manufacturing software, MT DUO 2008 showcases the latest break-through products and services in five theme exhibition areas: Design Engineering, CNC Machine Tools & Precision Mold Making, Outsourcing & Subcontracting, Component, Appliance & Material, Industrial Automation & Robot.

1.Design Engineering
Taiwan’s design engineering sector offers outstanding versatility. Whether you need new products or
the software to help you run automation processes, the engineer mavericks of Taiwan can match you
with the right tools for the job. In the area of advanced manufacturing technology and equipment,
Taiwan’s mid-sized manufacturers lead the design engineering industry with their chain of manufacturing plants, assembly lines, and customized machinery using CAE (computer-assisted engineering), CAID (computer-assisted industrial design), PDM (product data management), and EDMS (electronic document management software). That helps to explain why Taiwan’s design engineering sector has played an instrumental role in the advancement of many high-tech sectors such as the TFT-LCD (thin film transistor-liquid crystal display), IC (integrated circuit), and 3C (computer, consumer electronics,
and communications) industries.
2. CNC Machine Tools & Precision Mold Making
Taiwan saw double digit percentage gains for its production of machine tools and machinery in 2006
and is 4th among the world’s top manufacturers, behind Japan, Italy, and Germany. Taiwan’s machine
tools output between January and October 2006 reached US$2.43 billion, up 10.8% compared to last year.
The top 3 destinations of Taiwan machine tools export in the same period were China and Hong Kong
(38.2%), US (10.9%), Turkey (5%), followed by Thailand (4.1%) and the Netherlands (3.2%). Taiwan has
quality-made products and resourceful people doing R&D, design and production. And with the
well-established electronics information foundation already in place, Taiwan is easily able to support the
development of precision mold making.
3. Outsourcing and Subcontracting
Taiwan is the global leader in outsourcing and subcontracting business for machinery products, especially
machine parts and components. Taiwan’s vertically integrated supply chain, clustering effect thanks to
1,500 closely located manufacturers, strong support from Taiwan’s highly sophisticated precision industry,
and R&D-manufacturing partnership with international corporations have made Taiwan the ideal
procurement and outsourcing center for those who seek quality machinery products with competitive prices.
Moreover, Taiwan is positioned to become the world’s largest provider of general machine components
and parts by 2015, with an estimated annual output of NT$350 billion (US$10.6 billion) and NT$170 billion
(US$5.2 billion) worth of exports in 2015. 1
4. Component, Appliance & Material
Taiwan machine parts and components exports have shown steady increases from January 2005 to November 2006, reflecting the strength of Taiwan component supply system among the global information industry. Exports of Taiwan’s machinery parts and components totaled US$487.81 million between January and November 2006. Compared with the same period in the previous year, this record represented an increase of 7.5 percent, underscoring the competitiveness of the island’s manufacturers in the global marketplace. The robust growth of both Taiwan’s machine tools industry and machine parts/components industry expedites the development and sophistication of the semiconductor, intelligent robot, and flat panel monitor industry.
5. Industrial Automation & Robot
Building intelligent robots is poised to become Taiwan’s next high-growth industry as an increasing
number of local information-technology manufacturers have been engaging in research and development for the equipment. At present, Taiwan’s robot industry has an annual output of NT$20 billion (US$615.38 million at US$1 to NT$32.5), mostly used in developing automation applications, and the manufacturing industries. 2 Taiwan robotics manufacturers now design and produce intelligent automation devices and equipment for industries ranging from pharmaceutics, food processing, appliances to automotive components, electronics, telecommunications and semiconductors.
Welcome to the World’s Machinery Powerhouse!
Advancing to become the world’s fourth largest, Taiwan’s machine manufacturing industry is developing sophisticated technology for production of the high quality machine tools in an effort to assert itself across the global market with competitive products. As the world’s 4th largest exporter and 5th largest importer of machine tools, Taiwan now boasts the 2nd highest per-capita machine manufacturing output ($111 each Taiwanese), only next to Switzerland.
The quality, durability and competitive prices of Taiwan’s machinery products have strengthened Taiwan’s position as the leading manufacturer and procurement center not only for Chinese-speaking regions such as Taiwan, China and Hong Kong but also for the entire world.
